One of my favourite things in the whole world is gift giving, I can spend hours searching out the perfect present. But that certainly doesn’t mean I’ve got it down to a fine art, in fact I’ve given some howlers of gifts in my time (soz for the paint by number sunflower picture Mum). I’m a notorious researcher when it comes to present buying, recently I was stalking my boyfriend brothers twitter trying to glean any little bit of information before buying his birthday present. So when Alina contacted me about the opportunity to work on a collaborative gift buying blog post with herself and AO.com I was excited for the ‘research’ (read – stalking Alina’s beautiful blog) to commence!
We were asked to pick out a top 3 of goods that we thought the other blogger would like from a list of incredible home goods and gadgets, being the most indecisive person in the world this was a difficult job, that’s where the stalking came in! With fingers crossed that she would like her gift I picked out the top 3 and left it up to the team at AO to decide which one would eventually wing it’s way to Alina’s front door! You can check out her corresponding post right here.
Like any sane person I also love receiving presents so when I got home to an adorably small, perfectly square box that housed the brand-spanking new Apple Airpods Alina had picked out for me I was almost Christmas day level excited. It wasn’t long before I had ripped off the packaging and was squealing about the little dental floss like packaging they came in! It’s incredible just how useful I have found these little headphones, it may not sound life-changing but in the mornings I can clean my teeth listening to a podcast without tangling myself up in wires!
The sound quality is just ridiculously high in comparison to my previous pound shop headphones and I’m still discovering all the little features that Apple integrate so well in to their products. But despsite all the features, the best thing about the Airpods is not pulling my headphones out of my handbag to be faced with a massive knotted mess!
These headphones would make the perfect gift for that tricky little so-and-so on your list that has everything. I’m seriously considering getting the boyfriend a pair for Christmas, provided he finally updates his phone from an archaic Samsung to an Apple! You can find the headphones and a whole load of other things in AO’s Black Friday Sale.
With the Christmas gift giving period coming up I also thought I would share a couple of the tips I use when buying presents.
A Little Bit of Research Goes a Long Way
Okay, you don’t have to start googling their name, checking out their Tinder profile and hacking into their emails but maybe meet up for coffee and ask a few more questions than usual. If that isn’t possible then just have a quick browse of their social media, we are all over-sharers these days so Instagram/Twitter can be gold mines for gift givers, snaps of peoples homes or even throw away comments on twitter can be the basis of brilliant gift ideas!
Go For Luxury When Gift Giving
As much as I love a practical present, you can’t quite beat a bit of luxury. Luxe doesn’t have to mean the most expensive most grandiose present that money can afford, it just means something that someone wouldn’t buy themselves. After all, the best presents are the things you never thought you needed until you received them. Luxury items can be anything from hand-cream to something extremely indulgent like the Apple Airpods.
If In Doubt, Socks
If all else fails then there is always socks! But seriously, if you are really struggling with gift buying you can always drop back to the old faithful presents that everyone loves, this could mean socks, smellies or a voucher!
Don’t forget to make the most of all the Black Friday and pre-Christmas sales this month because the holiday is fast approaching!
